WHAT IS A FOODIE?
A foodie as defined in the Internet Encyclopedia
Wikipedia states:
“Foodies are
amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and
news. Gourmets simply want to eat
the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both
the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and
personalities surrounding food. For this reason, foodies are sometimes
viewed as obsessively interested in all things culinary. Foodie
is an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food and drink.
The word was coined in 1981 by Paul Levy and Ann Barr, who used it in the
title of their 1984 book The Official Foodie Handbook.”
A Foodie may have only been identified in the
scientific world, and legitimized in the 1980’s, but the hobby had its
roots established at the beginnings of mankind when the first caveman
bagged a dinosaur and threw it on the coals of their hot camp fire, which
they had to scare other animals away so they themselves did not become a
dinosaurs gastric delight for the evening!
Food has been the key ingredient in the celebration of family and
friendship. Even in biblical times
the supper and traditional breaking of bread, was the ritual used by people
bonding together.

distribution, food fads, health, nutrition, and
even restaurant management! As with
any hobby or personal pursuit, some choose to select a vertical subject and
thoroughly explore all facets of that which they love. In recent years the love of food by
foodies has created a need for food publications, television shows, books,
magazines, and specialty food stores, even farmers markets. Foodies revel in posting and sharing
their favorite recipes on the Internet and participating in food Blogs to
dissect a menu or food dish. A
number of specialty stores have come about driven by foodies who want “that
great little widget” to make their signature dish better or easier to
prepare. Today we honor and revere
the Restaurant Chef who has been given a position of a deity in some
culinary circles.
We here at Recipes for Foodies.com share your love and
affection for food. Marian, our CEF
(Chief Executive Foodie) has been eating her way through life while trying
to make a living to support her food hobby and addiction. Not only is she highly qualified as a
foodie herself, she has been involved in the food industry in various
capacities as a restaurant manager, caterer, cook, waitress and very
gracious Hostess! Aside from food,
she loves people and loves to share her passion for food and drink, of all
kinds, with her family and friends.
Hey, enough of
that, when do we eat!
